Luke Shaw Extends His Stay at Man United

Luke Shaw has formally signed a new five-year contract with Manchester United.

The England left back completed the particulars at United’s Carrington training ground on Thursday morning and the club are expected to make an announcement shortly. His current contract was due to expire at the end of the season.

The news completes a dramatic turnaround in fortunes for Shaw, whose future at United appeared uncertain after severe criticism from manager Jose Mourinho.

Shaw had been subjected to a series of public humiliations by Mourinho, who has previously questioned the player’s commitment, focus, ambition and football brain.

But the 23-year-old has won over Mourinho this season, recovering from fitness and form issues to become a virtual ever present at left back and United’s most consistent player during a torrid start to the season.

United face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday lunchtime with the club eighth in the table, seven points adrift of leaders Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool.
