Carrick reveals the best ever Manchester United star

Ex-Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick says he does not think Paul Scholes receives the credit he deserves.

While speaking to the mirror Carrick named Scholes as the best teammate he played with.’

Carrick, however appreciates he had the chance to play with an array of some of the most talented players to ever play in the game but insists Scholes won his admiration.

The 37-year-old played alongside Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo, Rio Ferdinand and Ryan Giggs just to name a few.

The Englishman featured alongside Scholes in the midfield for many years with most of it coming during Sir Alex Ferguson’s tenure at United.

During that period they won five Premier League titles, the Champions League and a FIFA Club World Cup trophy together.

‘I always say Scholesy because he was right next to me and, as a partnership, he was fantastic to play with.We had some incredible players, amazing, but I always go back to Scholesy.’

Elsewhere Michael Carrick has revealed that he suffered from depression for 2 years after United’s Champions League final defeat to Barcelona in 2009…

“I beat myself up over the Eto’o goal. I kept asking myself, ‘Why did I do that?’, then the depression snowballed from there. South Africa 2010, that was the worst time. It was my dream to be at a World Cup with England but I didn’t want to be there. I wanted to be at home.”

Carrick retired from football last season and is currently working as part of manager Jose Mourinho’s coaching staff.
