There was drama in Parliament as Members of the house visited the ladies lavatories at Parliament buildings seeking to ascertain claims made by a female member stating she overheard colleagues confessing on being bribed.
Led by Speaker Justin Muturi, over 10 MPs ambushed two ladies washrooms to confirms the claims made by Kiambu Woman Representative Gathoni Wamuchomba. The Former Radio host claimed that she heard two female voices confessing on being bribed by Wajir Woman representative Fatuma Gedi to vote against the sugar report.
Gedi has so far denied the claims.
According to Wamuchomba, the voices admitted to receiving between Sh 20,000 and Sh30,000 to vote against the sugar report.
The members of the Privileges and Powers Committee were to visit the washrooms last week, an exercise that was shelved last minute under unclear circumstances.
A few minutes past 10.am the speaker of the house Justin Muturi led the team to the truth finding adventure whose outcome will either dent or give weight to Wamuchomba’s evidence to the Committee.
Journalists were kept at bay by the Sergeant-at-arms during the 10 minute visit. Efforts from the press to sought clarity on the matter form the committee proved rather futile.
