The Kenya Vs Ethiopia match played at the Kasarani proved to be a very entertaining match and a very defining moment for Kenyan football. The match was played at a packed 60,000 seater Kasarani Stadium with fans from all walks of life coming to support the national team.

Among the fans were our political leaders, some of whom have been judged to not see eye to eye politically especially with the ongoing referendum debate. Seated at the Vip section, the leaders could be seen embracing each other while having some light moments together. They all celebrated whenever the Kenyan team scored a goal. Their so called political differences could not even be noticed one bit.

At this point what mattered was the National team’s win. Present leaders included Deputy President William Ruto; who promised the team a whooping 50 million should they beat Ethiopia, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Senator Murkomen, CS Rashid Echesa, Mps Kimani Ichungwa, Moses Kuria among others.

Kenya went on to thrash Ethiopia 3-0 to edge closer to making a return to the African Cup of Nations after a 14 year absence. Goals from Michael Olunga, Erick Johana and captain Victor Wanyama secured the vital win for the Stars.

Victory for Kenya, their 15th in 44 meetings against the 1962 continental champions, stretches their lead on Group “F” to seven points, three ahead of second-placed Ethiopia, while four-time champions Ghana are third on three points similar to suspended Sierra Leone.
