Cash! Sonko splashes Harambee Stars with millions

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has honoured his word by awarding Harambee Stars Ksh3 million moments after they trounced Ethiopia.

During a thrilling match at Moi Sports Center Kasarani, the Kenyan team beat Ethiopia’s Walia Ibex 3-0 in a Group F qualifying match.

In a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, Sonko met the team at their changing rooms alongside Deputy President William Ruto, Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka among other leaders.

Nilikua nimesema wakishida nitwadunga mita tatu (I had promised to award the team Ksh3 million on their victory),” Sonko stated as he handed over the cash to the team’s captain Victor Wanyama.

The cash was presented in three bundles of $10,000 each which is the equivalent of Ksh3 million as his teammates cheered on.

Sonko further revealed that the County government was forced to increase the number of buses transporting the fans to the stadium from 150 to 387 buses.

The Nairobi county boss further urged Harambee Stars to embark on consolidating a strong team which will take part in the CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Cameroon.

Addressing the players, the Ruto expressed his gratitude over the stunning performance.

“Guys we are very proud of you. Congratulations again. On behalf of the whole country, you have made us proud and we are very proud of you,” the DP stated.
