German publication Der Spiegel recently reported that an American woman by the name of Kathryn Mayorga had accused Ronaldo of sexual assault in 2009.

Ronaldo and his representatives quickly dismissed the rumours and even threatened to take the publication to court, while other reports have suggested that his sponsors are massively concerned about the allegations against him.

According to the Daily Star, the 33-year-old could possibly serve 10 years in jail if he is found guilty of the crime, and it has also been claimed he could lose up to £35 million (R673 million) a year in sponsorship deals.

Las Vegas police have reopened the investigation and want to question the Portuguese in the US, although Ronaldo recently put out a statement insisting he is calm as he feels he did not commit any crime.

Larissa Drohobyczer, an attorney who is a part of Mayorga’s legal team, recently issued a statement stating that Ronaldo has just under three weeks to respond formally to the accusation.

“Cristiano Ronaldo will have 20 days from the date of service of the lawsuit to answer our complaint in Kathryn Mayorga’s case,” the statement read.

There have also been new reports claiming that another woman has contacted Mayorga’s legal team claiming she had a similar experience with Ronaldo, while it is also believed that the Portuguese was arrested on suspicion of rape in 2005.
