Friends of Main Suspect in the Murder of Monica Nyawira Kimani , Joseph ‘Jowie’ Irungu have revealed details of his stay  full of troubles in the United Arab Emirates where he was based before returning to Kenya ahead of the August 8 General Eelection.
A friend of Irungu told the Nation that Jowie had been working as a security guard with the Fairmont Hotels and Resorts in Dubai.

The friend further added that Monica’s suspected killer had a habit of contravening the law which ultimately led to his dismissal barely seven months into the job.

In one instance, Jowie was caught with alcohol in the staff quarters – a criminal offence in the UAE which requires anyone holding alcohol to have a liquor license.

In another incident, he was caught inside a guest’s hotel room even though the hotel had a strict policy of not allowing staff into the guest’s room. On the two occasions, the man who later became Jacque Maribe’s fiancé, was issued with a warning by his employers.

However, it was the third incident which led to Jowie’s firing – he was caught in the women’s staff quarters and summarily dismissed. His friends say after he was fired, Jowie stole several laptop computers as he cleared from the staff quarters.

The details came at a time when the suspect’s parents said they were not aware of his reported training or stay in Afghanistan.

The media had earlier claimed that Maribe’s troubled fiancé was a mercenary trained in Afghanistan – a claim the DCI claimed to be unaware of and which has not been corroborated.

Jacque Maribe and her fiancé Joseph ‘Jowie’ Irungu on Tuesday made the first joint public appearance since the murder of Monica Kimani which will see them face murder charges.
On Tuesday morning, Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji ordered both Maribe and Irungu to be jointly charged with Monica’s murder.

They were later presented before a Kiambu court where they are expected to take a plea from now. During their arraignment in court, the two appeared to have lost the intimacy and public affection that had characterized their relationship before the Monica murder.

They sat on the dock side by side but they did not exchange any pleasantries. Maribe looked away from her fiance’s direction – betraying the tension between them.

At some point, the Citizen TV journalist became emotional as she broke down in tears. Her fiancé, sitting on her left-hand side, remained calm and did not make any effort to console his besieged lover.

Once in a while, Jowie would be seen whispering something to Maribe, but she remained mum only nodding and shaking her head is silence.

In July this year, Maribe wowed netizens after sharing a video of her romantic engagement to Jowie. They would later share their lovey-dovey moments calling each other pet names such as “my partner in everything”.
