The company’s Public Relations Officer, Jack Mbuthia, told journalists that the government had failed to clear a Ksh41 million bill.

“They had been given the notice to pay but did not,” he explained.

Mbuthia further stated that the disconnection had spared hospitals, dispensaries, and the mortuary.

The firm’s Chairman, Peter Munga, is engaged in a court battle with the governor over Wa Iria’s decision to replace him with Prof Joseph Kimura.

After promulgation of the new constitution, MUWASCO was given a limited time to continue operating independently, because the provision of water and sanitation services was now a devolved function of the county government.

That meant they would continue to provide services only until such a time as the county government was ready to take up that function.

The governor stated that the county was ready to start its mandate to provide water for the past eight years, but had been frustrated by people who were keen to retain their privileged and profitable operations at the expense of the people of Murang’a.

The judged stated that MUWASCO is a limited liability company whose differences ought to be resolved by the High Court.
