Tottenham fans will be worried after the latest injury update concerning Christian Eriksen. Age Hareide, the manager of Denmark, has revealed that Eriksen may be suffering from a chronic injury. In a new interview with Denmark’s Canal9, Hareide expressed fears that Eriksen may have long term back problem:

Christian (Eriksen) has a problem with a spinal cord, and Tottenham have reported that it is of long-term nature. It is doubtful whether we will bring him to Dublin and make him play. I do not think that Tottenham are particularly keen on that.

It has been a long time since he played in the match against FC Barcelona (in the Champions League). Against Cardiff, he was also out (of action). It has been over a week and I know that he has known about (the injury) for a while. Such an injury can be chronic, and it is true that Tottenham are worried.

On how log Eriksen will be out, Hareide made the following statement: I do not really know. You should speak to our doctor. Eriksen has featured in six of Tottenham’s first eight Premier League matches of the season.

Eriksen has missed recent wins against Huddersfield and Cardiff City.

Eriksen & his Tottenham contract
The 26-year-old Eriksen is only under contract at Tottenham until 2020.

In recent times the Spanish press have linked Eriksen with the likes of Barcelona. Will news of this back problem affect Tottenham’s thinking towards Eriksen when it comes to future contract talks?

Matt Le Tissier said  that Tottenham desperately missed Christian Eriksen as Mauricio Pochettino’s men made hard work of securing the three points from their Premier League clash with Cardiff City on Saturday.

Spurs moved up to third in the table after Eric Dier’s early strike proved to be the game’s only goal. The home side dominated possession against the newly-promoted Bluebirds, but could not find a second and came under a bit of pressure at times.

It was not a performance that will live long in the memory. And Le Tissier suggested that Spurs not having Eriksen available was a key reason why they were not able to kill Cardiff off.

“I think this boy is an incredible footballer, he’s one of my favourites to watch and they do miss what he gives the team,” he said.

“He gives the team something that nobody else in the team does, he sees a pass better than anyone else and the sooner he is back in the side the better team Spurs will be.”

The playmaker has probably not been at his best this term, providing just two assists in six league games so far. He is also yet to score in the league – though he did find the back of the net against Inter Milan in the Champions League.
