Blow to Raila as his Co-Principals table fresh demands over referendum

NASA Leader Raila Odinga’s calls for referendum are taking a new twist after a section of his co-principals brought in new demands.

Moses Wetangula and Musalia Mudavadi on Sunday slammed Odinga for being driven by selfish interests in the renewed calls for constitutional amendments to create position for himself.

“We are aware that some leaders including ODM leader Raila Odinga are hurriedly pushing for the constitutional changes to create positions that will benefit them but we are not going to allow this to happen,” Wetangula vowed.

The opposition coalition principals are now demanding for a complete overhaul of the electoral body IEBC before the country proceeds to a referendum, insisting that it cannot manage a credible exercise.

“How can we trust IEBC when judges found the agency to have bungled the elections? We want it reconstituted before it is allowed to oversee the referendum.” Mudavadi declared.

On his part, Mudavadi faulted the Church for failing Kenyans by failing to say the truth and becoming an avenue for laundering looted public funds.

“We have seen people loot public funds and donate to church during fund raising, yet the clergy cannot question where the money is coming from, we have become accomplice to stolen goods,”Mudavadi said.

“Why are we making the church to be a laundry for looted money?” He added.

The two principals were addressing a press conference in Bungoma flanked by Kiminini MP Dr Chris Wamalwa and ANC secretary General Barrack Muluka with Odinga’s efforts appearing to be bearing fruits.

The calls for a referendum is gathering momentum with Deputy President Ruto declaring that he is not opposed to a referendum as long as the process is not geared towards creating a position for NASA boss Raila Odinga.
