But #MeToo is apparently a trend , and news stories around rape now ” topical”, even though this crime has been taking place for all of human history .
The awarding of the2018 Nobel Peace Prize to Dr. Denis Mukwege and Nadia Murad places the issue of sexual violence front and center on both local and international stage. The honoring of Murad and Mukwege has drawn attention to this case of sexual assault and being recognized as a war crime.

Cases of sexual assaults are usually rampant in war-torn nations and when a state is in a form of instability.
Sexual assault brings with it post traumatic stress disorder , depression, anxiety, a shattering of self confidence. It causes years of flashback and nightmares of this criminal act. Job and academic performance gets impaired , career trajectories are permanently altered , finances suffer as also the relationship with other people. The victims end up losing friends and family members in the wake of rape , and hence long term difficulties with romantic love. This may even make some of them never get in any other relationship because of the trauma of the sexual insult.
The recovery path of the victims of sexual assault is not easy.It takes even decades for he victim to fully recover.
#MeToo, is aimed at framing how people think about sexual violence. Of course it is relevant to hold perpetrators accountable. The #MeToo foundation is their to give the victims of sexual assault a voice to speak out against the act which is against universal health and the well being of the people.
In Kenya and many African countries their are thousands of victims of rape who are suffering. The courage to speak out and condemn this vice is what for the longest time they have lacked. Mukwege and Nadia stories and Nobel Award recognition is a wake up call to the victims.
Most cases of Sexual assault have received light punishment in most African Nations. The victims also lack the support to stand out and condemn this criminal action against human lives.

Nadia who was sex slave in the Isis says that sharing her story is the only best weapon she has. The same applies to Dr. Mukwege who his African story about rape is a wake up call for men to speak out against rape.
The story of Dr. Mukwege is a story of courage which also will spur a ripple effect among the man. Most men are assaulted in many communities and chose to remain silent. This is with the expectations of the society of manhood. Most shy away from speaking out , for the fake of protecting their manhood and what the society expects of them.
Denis Mukwege also won this year's #NobelPeacePrize. He is a doctor and gynecologist, who has long worked to treat thousands of women and girls affected by rape and sexual violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo. https://t.co/2Qc33weHvT pic.twitter.com/IBP02cFo2T

The rape assault should be condemned at all cost as many people and human rights commission all over the world stand to sensitize the victims to speak up and even speak out . The victims have absolute freedom to seek justice and live a normal life afterwards.
The move will curb this deadly act that has ruined many lives. No means no and it should not be forced against the will of the person involved.
The wake up call has been made and the world is watching with a keen eye to bring to an end his brutal act.
