As part of a wide ranging interview with ‘Sky Sports’, Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino opened up about his battles with his natural shyness.

The Brazilian arrived at Anfield in 2015 from Hoffenheim and while he took a few months to settle into life in England he has not looked back since.

However Firmino opened up about his introverted naturethat he has had to overcome in his career.

A nuisance on the pitch and famous for his tattoos and bright white teeth off it, such a development may come as a surprise. However the Anfield club’s number nine revealed:

“I used to be very shy, much more so than I am now. It’s great that I’ve improved in that regard. Every day I’m getting better and less… embarrassed.

“I’m gradually coming out of my shell. I’ve always been shy, it’s just that I transform on the pitch. I’m a different person. Off the pitch I’m another person. That’s how it has to be.”

He continued:  “I think I was born with that desire to win and attention to detail. I learnt a lot in Germany and the German mentality really helped me. It was an enormous step in my life.”

Firmino will be looking to be anything but shy during the upcoming showdown with Manchester City on Sunday. A clash already being billed as an early title decider.

Liverpool beat the Premier champions 4-3 last year, as well as over two legs in Europe, speaking off the aforementioned domestic clash he said:

“It was incredible. It was an amazing game which we managed to win. The adrenaline, combined with the atmosphere on the pitch during such special games, is always incredible. It was sensational.
