Shame as sports ministry faulted for abandoning Kenyan team

Kenyans on twitter today shamed the sports ministry over the allegations that the Kenyan Harambee stars team there are also claims that  “The Harambee Stars coach has not received a salary for four months now, yet the ministry of sports promised to take care of the bill” This is not the first time that complaints have been raised for the same. Kenyans are bothered by the fact that during the 2018 Russia World cup, MP’s were alleged to have used taxpayers money in the name of benchmarking for a trip to Russia.

As reported by Citizen Digital on 14th July, Close to 30 politicians traveled Russia for the World Cup tournament, despite Kenya having never qualified for the competition. The trip has sparked outrage among many Kenyans who feel aggrieved that their tax money is going to waste. In their defense, the travelling Members of Parliament are insisting the matter has been blown out of proportion saying that the time in Russia has been well spent.

The cabinet secretary for sports Rashid Echesa was quick to distance himself from the trip and its purpose saying that the legislators’ trip was paid for by parliament.

“ We are aware that the National Assembly sports committee members are in Russia on a World Cup bench-marking tour. That is fully catered for by the parliamentary sports committee budget that is not hinged to the ministry of sports and heritage,” said CS Echesa.

Yet now… the claims stated are that “Kenya is so broke to afford Harambee Stars’ accommodation, and air tickets to Ethiopia for the 2019 AFCON qualifier, yet Billions in taxes from betting firms lay untouched at the treasury. How?”
