Dare Game Between Governor Sonko and Mwangi Wa Iria, who will hurl the first “blow?”

The water war between Nairobi County and Murang’a County is the reason behind the new twist developing between the governor for Nairobi Mike Mbuvi ‘Sonko’ and his Murang’a counterpart Mwangi wa Iria.

The whole battle arose when Wa Iria said he will block Ndakaini dam from flowing to Nairobi since it does not benefit the people of Murang’a in any way. Mwangi wa Iria who claimed to be speaking on the rights of his people of Mt. Kenya region said the county of Nairobi should pay Ksh. 2 billion annually to continue receiving constant water supply.

Mike Sonko was so much irritated by the comments from his Murang’a counterpart and dared him to stop the supply and he will see. Mike Sonko claims on his side that Mwangi wa Iria has constructed buildings in Nairobi county along river and road reservoirs.

Their comments spurred furious reactions from both sides as Mwangi wa Iria responded back by  also daring Mike Sonko to try and demolish his buildings which he claims they are constructed a long road reserve.

This comments just weeks after governor Mike Sonko started demolishing buildings in Nairobi which were built along the road reserves.

” It is ridiculous for the Nairobi governor to assume that i can be cowed from speaking for the rights of Mt. Kenya residents  by threats that i have a building in Nairobi which he claims he can demolish. He should have done it yesterday,” said Mwangi wa Iria.

Murang’a governor further challenged Mike Sonko to rehabilitate Nairobi River which he said had now become a flowing sewerage as the late  Michuki had attempted to. Mwangi wa Iria said that it was insulting to the people of Murang’a for Sonko to state that the people from Murang’a living i Nairobi are benefiting from the water.

The county government of Nairobi said it won’t pay the projected amount by the county of Murang’a since they have legitimate owners of the title deed in which the source of water feeding Nairobi, Ndakaini dam is.

The daring battle marks a beginning of county battles since each county is devising mechanisms to make sure it collects a lot of revenue to feed and run its numerous projects. This move by governor Mwangi WA Iria is aimed at ensuring the county of Murang’a benefits from Ndakaini dam which is in their county perimeter but being used by Nairobi county.

This twist is expected to continue and even gain more shape as both leaders are expected to arrive at an amicable solution that will serve best the interests of both counties.
