Liverpool ace opens up on fear of going blind

Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino has revealed that he feared going blind in one eye after he was injured during his side’s clash with Tottenham.

The Brazilian sustained an abrasion of the eye last month after being caught by Spurs’ defender Jan Vertonghen as his side registered 2-1 win over the north London side. As reported by the ESPN FC, the FA won’t be taking any disciplinary action against the Belgian as the governing body believes the incident was entirely accidental.

“I was scared of going blind in one eye and not being able to see again. Thank God nothing like that happened and it gradually improved day after day,” Firmino told Sky Sports.

“Of course, I’ve been taking my medication and looking after it. Your eyes are very important as a professional footballer. Thank God everything is OK now. I was frightened, but the pain gradually passed after the doctor gave me a painkiller and it got better.”

“When the incident happened, everything was blurry and I couldn’t see out of my left eye. It’s much better. The pain has gone and I can’t feel anything anymore. It’s still a bit red, but I hope that clears up over time,” he added.

The Brazilian was doubtful for the Reds’ Champions League opener against Paris Saint Germain but he came off the bench to net the winner in the stoppage time.
