Serge Aurier, Mousa Dembele, Christian Eriksen and Jan Vertonghen will join Dele Alli in missing Tottenham’s Champions League clash with Barcelona – but Hugo Lloris will start on Wednesday.

Alli missed the Premier League win over Huddersfield Town at the weekend with a hamstring injury, with Mauricio Pochettino confirming after the 2-0 victory that the midfielder would not be ready to face Barcelona in midweek.

However, Spurs have now confirmed the England international will not play again before the international break, meaning he will also sit out Saturday’s league game with Cardiff City.

Defenders Aurier and Vertonghen, as well as midfield duo Dembele and Eriksen, have also been ruled out of the club’s next two fixtures, leaving Pochettino light on options.

Lloris has not featured since the 3-0 Premier League win over Manchester United at Old Trafford on August 27 due to a thigh problem.

The World Cup winner missed his side’s Champions League opener, as they let slip a one-goal advantage in the closing stages to lose 2-1 to Inter in Milan.

Christian Eriksen will not return following an abdominal problem, while Jan Vertonghen and Dele Alli are both out with hamstring injuries.

Serge Aurier and Mousa Dembele complete the injury list for Spurs who face a big challenge to overcome Barcelona.

In light of the injury updates, Erik Lamela looks certain to get another chance to continue his sparkling form.

The winger has experienced a mixed spell in north London but has scored or provided an assist in each of his five appearances this season for Spurs, mostly from the bench.

Elsewhere in the team, Harry Winks and Victor Wanyama will battle it out for a place alongside Eric Dier in the middle.

Danny Rose is expected to get the nod to be tasked with keeping tabs on Lionel Messi in the left-back slot ahead of Ben Davies, with Davinson Sanchez in the heart of the defence.
