Mourinho takes a jibe at Manchester United fans

Jose Mourinho aimed a dig at Manchester United supporters who had been calling for Anthony Martial to start ahead of Alexis Sanchez following the defeat to West Ham on Saturday.

Martial had started only twice this season before the clash at the London Stadium and had pushed to leave Old Trafford this summer. Mourinho has endured a turbulent relationship with Martial and was annoyed with the France international’s decision to return late to United’s pre-season training this summer following the birth of his son.

Martial’s playing time has been restricted following Sanchez’s arrival from Arsenal in January and United fans have urged Mourinho to bench the Chilean due to his poor performances this year.

“For how many months people are asking for Martial, Martial, Martial. For how many months people are saying that Alexis Sanchez is not playing well enough, ‘So this week was time to agree, and to say ‘let’s give a chance to Martial and let’s leave Alexis out”, Mourinho told BT Sport.

Marcus Rashford pulled a goal back in the second half but Marko Arnautovic’s strike with 16 minutes remains secured a 3-1 win for Manuel Pellegrini’s side
