Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool are not thinking about trophies despite their red-hot start to the season. The Reds have won all seven Premier League and Champions League games this season to spark suggestions that Klopp could be on the verge of winning his first trophy for the Merseyside club.

It’s been 12 years since Liverpool won a trophy – the 2006 FA Cup final win over West Ham on penalties – and the German was asked about their barren run at his news conference ahead of tomorrow’s League Cup date with Chelsea at Anfield.

“We aren’t thinking about trophies at the moment. We are thinking about how to win football games and improve our game. We have a lot of space for improvement,” said Klopp. Klopp, who confirmed Simon Mignolet will get his first start tomorrow, has urged his side to forget about the weekend’s trip to Stamford Bridge in the Premier League.

“We should completely ignore the game on Saturday. It’s a complete coincidence we play them again, it’s a different competition,” said Klopp.

“(League Cup) is a competition we like. We showed that in my first season. It’s a difficult draw for both teams.

“It’s not a competition where it only gets less easy in the semi-finals. It’s a home game, floodlights, it’s a very strong side (Chelsea).”

Klopp also let his feelings be known regarding the scheduling of games for his men.

“With the Carabao Cup, FA Cup, Europe… the FA must hope nobody gets through all the competitions because it’s impossible to deal with it,” added Klopp, who also reserved special praise for Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri.

“You have seen immediately the impact, he has all my respect. I don’t know why people aren’t talking about them,” added Klopp.

“This team has experience, won title already, 80% twice, they know how it works. That is a really good, strong group.”
