Kenya’s military side terrorized by Sharks

A well oiled Kariobangi Sharks became the first team to qualify for the 2018 Sportpesa Shield Cup Finals after putting four goals past an out of sorts Ulinzi Stars.

A youthful Sharks side, led by striker Eric Kapaito and youngster Harrison Mwendwa played fast paced football with sharp shot passes that left the soldiers gasping for air.

It only took four minutes for Winger Duke Abuya to open the scoring after some blunders from the Ulinzi defense. Midfielder Shaphan Oyugi doubled the scores with an easy tap in 10 minutes later after being set up with a tantalizing cross from former Mathare United youngster Harrison Mwendwa.

Things turned into the worse on the 18th minute as Kapaito, who confirmed his credentials as top marksman in the KPL doubled on some confusion in the Ulinzi goal to score the third goal. The scoreline remained the same going into the break.

Sharks started the second half in similar fashion as Kapaito completed his brace and put the game beyond reach for the soldiers. Ulinzi scored a consolation on the 89th minute through Cliff Kasuti.

Kariobangi will now await the winner between Leopards and Sofapaka to know whom they will face in the finals next month. The Sharks lost last year’s final 0-2 to Leopards in Machakos and will be hoping to revenge the bitter loss.

Winners of the Shield Cup will get a direct ticket to play in the CAF Confederations Cup next season. They will also walk away with ksh 2 million in prize money.
