Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula has distanced his Ford Kenya party from the statement made by NASA politicians that they will support President Uhuru’s proposals to the controversial Finance Bill 2018.
President Kenyatta last week proposed to reduce VAT tax on Petroleum products to eight per cent.
‘Should Parliament accept this proposal, the price of super petrol will drop from KSh 127 to about KSh 118, and the price of diesel will drop from KSh 115 to about KSh 107.’ The President said during a state of the nation address on Friday.
Opposition legislators on Tuesday released a statement saying “Nasa therefore offers its conditional support for the initiative to cut VAT from the initial 16 percent to eight.”
But Wetangula, who is part of the NASA co-principals has released a statement saying the deliberations were only made by ODM legislators and in no way represent the stand of the coalition.
There has been no agreed coalition position on the VAT saga. Our opposition to imposition of a further tax load remains intact. The Odm leader’s statement is personal and does not in anyway represent NASA. NASA mps are advised to play their opposition role.
