Eliud Kipchoge highlights 8 key components to his record breaking victory

Sunday the 16th of September was a historic day for one Eliud Kipchoge and Kenya in general. Kipchoge smashed the previous world record by compatriot Dennis Kimetto by a massive one minutes and 16 seconds, clocking 2 hours, 01 minute and 39 seconds to retain his BMW Berlin Marathon title on Sunday.

The 33-year-old Kipchoge, who won in Berlin in 2015, edged out compatriot Amos Kipruto to second place in 2:06:20 as the 2013 Berlin Marathon champion Wilson Kipsang settled third in 2:06:47. He will pocket a cash prize of Sh5.5million for his victory and a bonus of Sh7 million from IAAF.

Shortly after the record breaking victory, the national hero went to Social Media to thank and acknowledge all parties whom he believes were vital for him in accomplishing this historic feat. He first thanked his family, Nike company among others, below is his full statement.

1.My Family

I Thank my wife(Grace) and my kids(Lynne, Griffin and Jordon) for the overwhelming support they gave me for the last 4 months of training, you always inspire me and you are my ignition key.

2.Coaches

My coach Patrick Sang is my all time coach and supporter, he is my life coach not forgettimng his two assistants (Meto and Koech). You made this day realizable.

3.Global Sports Communication

This is a wonderful management led by director Jos Hermens and Valentijn Trouw, and all entire team, you are such a wonderful management company.

4.Nike

Nike company led by Phil Knight and sports marketting Capriotti, not forgetting the innovation and design team. On the other hand the physiologists led by Brett Kirby, thank you for the support for over 15 years.

5. NN Running team

You are such a wonderful family, I like you all, I wish everybody all the best in the coming races. Cheers brothers ans Sisters. teamwork is key.

6. Isuzu company
