Wolves boss Nuno Santo asked to replace Jose Mourinho

Manchester united  have included  Nuno Espirito Santo to the list of potential candidates to replace Jose Mourinho.

The Wolves boss has impressed the Old Trafford bosses and could be in line to succeed his countryman.

Santo is being considered by Manchester United alongside former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane as replacement for Jose Mourinho who seems to have butted heads with the club’s board, namely vice-executive Ed Woodward, who handles transfer dealings, among other things.

Santo  led the West Midlands back to the Premier League after a six-year absence at his first attempt.

The club attained 99 points, leading the way from October, and were nine clear of second-placed Cardiff at the end of the season.

And Wolves have enjoyed a successful start to the new season, earning draws against Everton and champions Manchester City either side of their only defeat, at Leicester.

Nuno has transformed Wolves since taking over last summer where he has guided them to promotion while also making a number of eye-catching signings.

But he knew in their first game of the Championship campaign last year, against Middlesbrough, that he was working with a unique group of players.

Nuno said: “Middlesbrough at home, the first game (was when I knew I had something special at Wolves).

“When the competition started, that is when I believed we were going to achieve our goals of getting promoted.”

The Wolves boss has impressed since taking over at the English club, winning promotion to the Premier League in his debut campaign with the team.

Following an opening-day win over Leicester, the Red Devils suffered defeats against Brighton and Tottenham but got their season back on track by beating Burnley on Sunday .

Mourinho was Santo’s manager during his playing spell at Porto as the Portuguese side won the Champions League in 2004.
