Gor Mahia players have boycotted training for the second day in a row following unpaid August salary, a local media revealed on Wednesday.

The team was set to resume training on Monday but the players opted against making a return to the training venue until their salaries are paid. Team manager Jolawi Abondo has confirmed that the players have not turned out to prepare for their weekend match against Thika United.

Apart from the five players, who are with national teams – Philemon Otieno, Joash Onyango and Francis Kahata for Kenya, Francis Mustapha and defender Karim Niziyimana (both for Burundi), the rest of the squad was supposed to turn out for training under coach Dylan Kerr.

β€œIt is true they have not trained, but it is only today (Tuesday) that they have not turned out for training. It is not a protest or something close to that, they are just saying they do not have money for transport because they have not been paid, that is the information I have.”
