Cazorla regrets leaving Arsenal

Villarreal midfielder Santi Cazorla has revealed that he regrets how he left his former side Arsenal ahead of his move to the Spanish side.

The Spaniard ended his six-year stay at the Emirates after struggling with injury for two years. The 33-year-old resumed training with Arsene Wenger’s squad towards the end of last season but the Frenchman would not risk Cazorla’s long-term fitness by giving him a sentimental farewell during a game.

Cazorla signed a one-year deal with former club Villarreal after leaving the Emirates but he’s revealed that he regrets not being able to properly say goodbye to Arsenal fans on the pitch.

“The people love me there and I’ll always have a connection with Arsenal, so much affection. Not being able to say goodbye playing at the Emirates is like a thorn in my side. If I had to leave, I wanted it to be in front of the fans,” said Cazorla.
