Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has revealed what Cristiano Ronaldo texted him after he scooped the UEFA’s Player of the Year award last Thursday.
The Croatian had a stunning season as he helped guide Real Madrid to Champions League glory and captained Croatia to the World Cup final though some believe Ronaldo should have been given the prize after netting 15 times as Los Blancos lifted the European Cup.
Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri also described the iconic number seven as being ‘angry’ after failing to be recognised for his achievements.
However, Modrić has revealed that Ronaldo sent him a congratulatory text and insisted he has a good relationship with his former Bernabéu team-mate.

“He [Ronaldo] spoke to me. He sent me a congratulatory message saying, ‘I’m happy for you, you deserve it, and I hope to see you soon,’ Modric told RTP. As I said, we have a good relationship, no matter what people say. What matters is that he sent me a message after winning.”
“For me, individual prizes are important, but not as important as collectives. They are a good thing, but I’m not obsessed with it. Whatever has to happen will happen.”
