DPP haji warns Nation Media Group,Demands an Apology

Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji is concerned about an article by Daily Nation and has now demanded for an apology. He also wants the article corrected.He says he never had a conversation via telephone with Nation Media.

He has formed a task force to develop minimum standards for charging suspects. “The task force shall prepare and submit its report to the Director of Public Prosecutions together with its recommendations within 30 days from the date of its appointment,” Haji said in a Gazette notice published August 31.

The team will, among other things, review national prosecution policy and other prosecutorial guidelines to develop minimum standards on the decision to charge, develop guidelines on alternatives to prosecution and standard guidelines on preparation of case files. It will also develop guidelines on the operationalisation of central intake of cases, guidelines on review of prosecutorial decision and develop Office of the DPP charge sheet formats and information.

Members of the task force include all deputy directors of public prosecutions, senior assistant director of public prosecutions and head of Supreme Court and Court of Appeal. The senior assistant director of public prosecutions of the human rights and judicial review division will also sit on the task force.
