Luka Modric receives the UEFA Men's Player of the Year award

The Bernabeu stars have done it again! With nominees in every category, Real Madrid has managed to outshine everyone else in the UEFA Awards of 2017- 18. Here’s a rundown of Los Blancos’ awards.

#1 Luka Modric

Captain of the Croation National team and one Real Madrid’s best midfielders of all time, Luka Modric has been declared as UEFA’s player of the year. He beat his former Real teammate Cristiano Ronaldo and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.

Not just this, he has been crowned as the best midfielder of the season, beating out his teammate at Madrid Toni Kroos and Kevin De Bruyne from Manchester City.

Known for his midfield exploits with Toni Kroos he has also cruised the World Cup. He was instrumental in getting Croatia into the finals of the Fifa World Cup. He is also the owner of this year’s Golden Ball.

#2 Sergio Ramos

Real Madrid’s captain who also captains the Spanish National team, Sergio Ramos has been declared as the best defender of the season. He left his teammates Marcelo and Varane behind to win the title.

Even though his last season was marred by several disciplinary records, he performed exceptionally to win the coveted title. As he defended his title, he also made his 500th appearance for Real Madrid which is exceptional.

#3 Keylor Navas

The Mexican goalkeeper has been crowned as the best goalkeeper of the season, shutting the mouth of all people who think that Navas is no longer important since Courtois arrived from Chelsea. In the draw, he got better of Allison Becker and Gianluigi Buffon (last year’s title holder).

Navas made his 100th appearance for Madrid during the season. He appeared in eleven matches during 2017-18 UEFA Champions league. The win against Liverpool in the finals saw Navas claim his 100th victory for Madrid in only 141 appearances.

Navas showed master class against Bayern in Real’s semi-final second leg clash which helped Real Madrid qualify to the final. He made eight saves during the game, his highest tally in a Champions League knock-out game.

#4 Cristiano Ronaldo

Real Madrid can never forget the contribution of the Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo. Neither can UEFA. Earlier this week his bicycle kick against Juventus was adjudged as the best goal of the season. Tonight he defeated Lionel Messi and Mohamed Salah to win the Forward of the season title.

He is Real Madrid’s top scorer of all time with 450 goals in 438 appearances. In the 17-18 season, he scored 44 goals in 44 appearances. With numerous records to his name, Bernabeu is certainly going to miss him.
