Why Gor Mahia might reap big in Algiers

Gor Mahia FC may have an advantage going to the USM Algers clash as the side has four of their best players suspended heading to the clash that will be on Wednesday 29 August at 4 PM EAT in Algeria

USM Alger will be without four players three of whom are suspended for the clash. Mohamed Benkhemessa, Mohammed Benyahia, and Rafik Bouderbal are suspended for the tie while Mohamed Mezeghrani is a new signing from Dutch club RKC Waalwijk whose registration papers were submitted late. Prince Ibarra will lead the attack line for USM after scoring in the Algiers derby against NA Hussein Dey on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Kenyan Premier League Champions Gor Mahia have landed in Algiers ahead of their CAF Confederations final Group stage match against Algerian Giants USM Algiers set for Wednesday 29 August at El Djezair Stadium.

The Kenyan Giants jetted out of the country on Monday morning, a day after beating AFC Leopards 2-0 to win the 17th KPL title. The team made a stop in Morocco where they spend a night on Monday. The team will tackle Algiers in a crucial match that will determine who will qualify for the next round as Rayon Sport also stands a chance of reaching the quarters.

The Rwandan side can make it to the next stage if they pick a win against Yanga and Gor Mahia loses in Algiers. Both Gor Mahia and USM Algiers are tied on eight points after five matches in Group D. Rayon Sport are placed third with six points, they will be targeting maximum points against Yanga to liven their chance of reaching the quarters.

Gor Mahia FC held on for a goalless draw in the first meeting with USM Algiers and will be hoping to cause an upset in Algiers. USM Algiers are yet to suffer a home defeat in the CAF Confederations since 2013.

The match will be aired on Supersport nine.
