Tottenham Hostpur’s Kieran Trippier has admitted that he hopes the free-kick he successfully converted against Fulham on Saturday is the first of many to come from him.

Trippier, who was restored to the Spurs line-up for the first time since returning from an impressive World Cup campaign with England, was presented with an opportunity to take a free-kick from 30 yards out with the scoreline reading 1-1 in the 74th minute.

The full-back dispatched a sublime shot beyond the reach of Fabri in the opposition goal to send Wembley into a delirium of noise, remembering Trippier’s similar technique against Croatia in the World Cup semi-final that almost helped England through to the final in Moscow.

The 27-year-old also revealed that he has been practising more on his free-kick routines alongside Christian Eriksen at the club, helping him gather the confidence to asked the Dane for a chance to have a go at Fabri on Saturday.

“People could say it’s a one-off thing [with the free-kick in the World Cup], but I just practise and practise after training every day when I was away with England and at Tottenham”, Trippier told the club’s official website.

“I’m absolutely delighted that I managed to score my free-kick and hopefully there’s many more this season. The most important thing was that we got the result today, six points out of two games and we move on now”, he added.

Tottenham will now travel to Old Trafford next Monday to face Manchester United in the Premier League after winning both their games, against Newcastle United and Fulham, so far this season.

Trippier, playing at right wing-back, was arguably England’s player of the tournament as Gareth Southgate’s men made it to the semi-finals in Russia before bowing out to Croatia.

It was against the Croatians that Trippier put the Three Lions ahead with a brilliant free-kick and he picked up for Spurs where he left off with another fine strike against Fulham at Wembley on Saturday.
