Arsenal are unwilling to offer Aaron Ramsey wages on par with Mesut Ozil, according to the Evening Standard. Negotiations between the club and the player over a new contract are ongoing with both parties still some way apart. The Gunners remain hopeful that Ramsey will eventually agree to sign a new deal.

Aaron Ramsey has been informed to forget signing a deal similar to Mesut Ozil’s £350k-per-week contract.

Ozil’s contract is believed to have complicated matters by adjusting parameters over feasible demands for other key players. However, Arsenal have told the Welshman that Ozil has a specific worldwide commercial value and his contract should not be used as a benchmark.

Ramsey currently earns £110k-per-week and he is hoping for a significant increase. His deal is due to expire next summer and Arsenal are keen to avoid a similar situation to Alexis Sanchez.

The 27-year-old was left on the bench in Arsenal’s 3-2 defeat at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. Sources report that the players were left ‘shocked’ by Unai Emery’s decision to omit Ramsey from his line-up. His omission from the starting line-up adds an interesting factor to the situation with the transfer window still open in other countries.

Ramsey’s current deal expires next summer with the Gunners keen to tie the Welsh midfielder to the club.As it stands, Ramsey can talk to other clubs in January with Premier League rivals Manchester United and Chelsea believed to be keen on the 27-year-old.

He’s rated highly by new Arsenal boss Unai Emery and is expected to captain the Gunners at times this season. But the Sun claim talks have stalled with it reported that Arsenal could lose the star if they don’t sort a deal soon.

But former Premier League midfielder Jermaine Jenas believes Ramsey is unhappy with his current position in Unai Emery’s side, hence the current contract stand-off. “For their sake, they need to go down that road because the Aaron Ramsey situation didn’t work,” he told BT Sport.

“I think he wants to play higher up the pitch and I get the feeling it was more Ramsey’s decision than Emery’s.

“The fact Ramsey hasn’t signed – you can’t tell me there has not been a conversation along the lines of ‘what is it, then, that you want?’
