Everton signs Barcelona duo

Everton have had a busy transfer deadline day signing Yerri Mina, Bernard and just when you thought it was over they have completed the signing of Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes on a season long loan.

The signing of Andre Gomez means that Everton have brought in three Barcelona players in this transfer window after previously completing the singing of left back Lucas Digne, center back Yerri Mina and the lastest addition of Portuguese Gomes.

The midfielder had a season to forget at Barcelona making 16 league appearances and without registering any goal.

The arrival of Arturo Vidal from Bayern Munich further limited his chances of featuring for the Catalan based club. The 25 year old will end his two year stay at Barcelona after making the switching from Valencia for €37m on a five year deal in a high-profile move.

The poor season at Barcelona last season ulitimately costed him a place on the Portugese national team after he missed Fernando Santos’ Portuguese squad for the 2018 World Cup.

Gomes has 29 international caps for Portugal, playing in a variety of midfield roles, and was part of the 2016 European Championship winning squad. He will compete for places with Gylfi Sigurdsson, Morgan Schneiderlin and Tom Davis.

On 11 January 2018, FC Barcelona and Palmeiras reached an agreement for the transfer of Yerry Mina for the remainder of the season and five more until 30 June 2023. This made him the first ever Colombian to play for the club. The cost of the transfer was €11.8 million and his release clause was set at €100 million.

Mina made his debut replacing Gerard Piqué in the 83rd minute of the Copa del Rey semi-final against Valencia. Barcelona would go on to win the match 2–0 and advance to the final. He would make his home and league debut against Getafe, starting and playing the full game to a 0–0 draw. He made his first official contribution at the club as he assisted Ousmane Dembélé in a 5–1 defeat of Villarreal.

Bernard on the other hand  was first called up for Brazil on 11 September 2012, to the Superclásico de las Américas, by coach Mano Menezes. He made his debut for Brazil as a 74th-minute substitute for Lucas Marques on 21 November 2012, in the 2nd leg of the 2012 Superclásico de las Américas against Argentina, where the Seleção won the title on penalties.

He was selected in Brazil’s squad for their hosting of the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup, making his first appearance in the final group game against Italy for the last 20 minutes in place of Neymar. He also came on as a substitute in the semi-final victory over Uruguay, as Brazil went on to win the trophy.

After being regularly called up by manager Luiz Felipe Scolari, Bernard was named among the final 23-man squad ahead of 2014 FIFA World Cup on 7 May 2014. He played in the opening game against Croatia as a substitute for Hulk, and came on at half-time in Brazil’s second group game against Mexico, a 0–0 draw. He was then unused until his first start in a major tournament, playing all 90 minutes of the 7–1 defeat to Germany in his hometown of Belo Horizonte.

He remained an unused substitute in the third place play-off match against Netherlands, which Brazil lost 3–0.
