Where will Real Madrid now get 50 goals per season?

Selling a 33 year old for 112 million euros sounds like a good deal, and maybe it was the right moment to let Cristiano Ronaldo leave but what can’t be debated is that now they have lost a scoring threat and a massive one at that.

We are talking 50 goals a season on average, what he has brought over nine seasons and who now is capable of filling that void.

Karim Benzema will now be the focus of attention for goals, due to his role in the team and also because he has failed to deliver in recent seasons.

In nine years at the Bernabeu, Benzema has 192 goals, which equates to an average of 21 goals a season, but the problem is that in his last two campaigns he has got 19 and 12.

After Benzema, then Gareth Bale will be under scrutiny and he will now have more responsibility going forward. He has 88 goals in five seasons, an average of 18 per campaign, but this would be clearly higher were it not for injuries.

Then come players like Isco, Asensio, Lucas Vazquez and even Borja Mayoral who will have the chance to step up but all except the last of them are more playmakers than strikers.

  1. Karim Benzema: 192 goals in 412 games (0.46 goals per game)
  2. Gareth Bale: 88 goals in 189 games (0.46 goals per game)
  3. Marco Asensio: 21 goals in 91 game (0.23 goals per game)
  4. Isco: 42 goals in 240 games (0.17 goals per game)
  5. Lucas Vzquez: 16 goals in 136 games (0.11 goals per game)

Many fans believe that Madrid need to sign a centre forward along with a world renowned player like Neymar, Mbappe or Hazard. And the most highly-rated right now is Harry Kane.

The Spurs forward had 41 goals in 48 games last season, a rate similar to Ronaldo and he has been able to repeat that over recent campaigns.

Icardi, whose personal life has made the club think twice, is another option with an average of 23 goals per season at Inter.

  1. Edinson Cavani: 155 goals in 203 games (0.76 goals per games)
  2. Robert Lewandowski: 151 goals in 195 games (0.77 goals per game)
  3. Harry Kane: 135 goals in 187 games (0.72 goals per game)
  4. Mauro Icardi: 93 goals in 150 games (0.62 goals per game)
  5. Neymar: 118 goals in 175 games (0.67 goals per game)
  6. Mbapp: 47 goals in 90 games (0.52 goals per game)**
  7. Hazard: 59 goals in 170 games (0.34 goals per game)**

Aside from Kane and Icardi, the other top goalscorers don’t appear to be realistic targets with Cavani not being looked at and Lewandowski’s time appears to have passed.

Salah is also difficult as he is now an idol at Liverpool but it wouldn’t be unthinkable that Florentino Perez makes a move for him. However, the Egyptian’s average over past seasons is a lot lower than Cavani and Lewandowski.

Whatever happens, it is unlikely that he who comes in can cover the gap left by Ronaldo.

**Mbappe’s record is only over the past two seasons as before that he rarely played as a professional
